Our Drop-in Cafe and Other Programming!

by | Jul 20, 2016

On Monday, July 11, after many months of preparation, we opened our Drop-In Café space at 18 Camden Street. Staffed by Peer Supporters (Young Adults with lived experience of Mental Health Issues) who completed our Peer Support Training Program, our team is welcoming Young Adults into our space, to provide a listening and validating ear and to connect participants with our programs and services.

In addition to our Drop-In Peer Support, our programming is going strong with many ways for Young Adults to participate:

On Monday nights from 5:30 – 7:30 you’ll find Our Peer Support Drop In Group happening at 18 Camden Street. Facilitated by our Peer Supporters, the group is a great way to meet other Young Adults, give and receive support and share experiences. No registration is required to participate!

On Tuesday nights, the SashBear Foundation’s Family Connections program engages participants to learn skills to support loved ones who struggle with Emotion Dysregulation. So far the group has learned the HALT (Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired) skills to help regulate emotions and has practiced Mindfulness (have you ever tried Mindfulness of Pizza?!). This group will go until the end of August.

On alternating Wednesday nights, the Stella’s Studio group creates, shares and inspires with their creative works. Recent meet ups have included an improv workshop and a screening of the movie Inside Out.

Starting on Thursday, July 28, our Peer Supporters will be facilitating an 8-week WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) group for Young Adults. In the group, participants will learn about the values of Recovery and create a personalized toolkit that can help an individual get well, stay well and live the life they want.

In addition to all of these programs, our ONTrack Fitness and Wellness program is in full swing at the Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre at Bloor and Spadina. 6 classes are offered every week, including Yoga, Gravity, Athletics, and our newest class, Hip Hop Dance! Registration is ongoing for this program, and you can learn more by emailing ontrack@mnjcc.org

We want to stay in touch, but don’t worry, we don’t send too many emails and you can unsubscribe any time.
